The producers of the current version say he can't, repeating what the French distributor said. From what I've gathered from various news articles and court documents, the current producers had been attached to help fund it in 2016, until Branco sacked them believing he could do it better himself. So the production team on the current version was formed out of the ashes of the 2016 attempt.

From what I gathered, paulo Branco alienated and scared a lot of people... He rejected Kinology and Amazon didn't want to finance the film as long as he was producing... After he was gone, this 2 partners came back and helped fully finance the film.

Amazon knew he was bad news, but it seems Gilliam knew what he'd got himself into early on, and had been planning his Plan B production while all the trouble with Branco was going on. Sorry for you guys, not everybody can be french I guess . I'll think of you when I'll watch the film in May and you'll have to wait 6 more months to see it .

The Wiki article mentions that Branco's actions after all the salary cuts he tried to enforce gave Gilliam a heart attack. Unbelievable!

Yes that's what Gilliam said to journalists in Paris. The poor guy suffered a heart attack before the shoot and a prostate operation after... Talk about a taxing film !

I hope it gets sorted out. Both for TG's sake and ours: I'm, naturally, looking forward to this film more than any another this year or decade or so for that matter!

I think it's more desperate than anything (by the way, he's openly accusing Thierry Frémaux of forcing through to show the film, not sure it's the good thing to do when you work in french cinema )...

In doing that, Branco is effectively biting the hand that feeds him, all the way up to the armpit. He's thrashing about like a jilted lover who can't accept the truth.
