RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 07-05-2018 Here is a nice long interview with Gilliam from karlovy Vary, touching on all kinds of topics : https://www.rogerebert.com/interviews/kviff-2018-terry-gilliam-dreams-the-impossible-dream RE: The Making of Quixote - MercuryZap - 07-05-2018 All I know is it was a great relief to laugh (again) at episodes (Dennis Moore, World Hide and Seek) of series 3 from that ancient offensive Python yesterday while I wouldn’t even bother considering the vast majority of the BBCs current output. If it wasn’t so dangerous it would be hysterically funny how the world really is looking more and more like a python sketch writ large. From Series 3: Announcer: It's an interesting question. Personally I rather adhere to the Bergsonian idea of laughter as a social sanction against inflexible behavior but... excuse me a moment... And now... Cheers M RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 07-05-2018 I'm amazed to see how everybody is taking a (bad)(?)joke so seriously... It's frightening to see the americans so defensive and serious over this and not over the actual politics of their own country. On a sidenote, Gilliam gets crucified for this but Chris Pratt can do an evangelical speech about jesus's blood in the MTV awards and nobody bats an eyelash. RE: The Making of Quixote - Dominic F - 07-06-2018 On the plus side, in a no publicity is bad publicity kind of way, Terry's outspoken ways are probably making him relevant to a generation of film bloggers who probably otherwise wouldn't have any idea who he is. Even if that's purely as a hate figure. Pretty depressing for those of us who love him and his films, and it must be a total nightmare for the PR guys trying to get people to see and support (and distribute) the film. These are humourless and reactionary times though, and there are some things, it seems, that you simply cannot joke about if you don't want to be attacked on Twitter. He is being watched so closely now, and they're out for blood. Every time he attends a festival they will be sharpening their knives, ready to pounce and quote him out of context. I don't think these people will be happy until Terry is totally black balled from the industry, and he's making it easy for them. I really hope someone with influence in his close circle of friends can convince him to be more careful when speaking in public! RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 07-06-2018 Terry Gilliam and Joana Ribeiro talk about the film at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. At least in his statement, Branco aknowledges he's there for the money (when he says that he wants 60% of all the film's revenues for his french company and 10% for his portuguese company, good luck with that). |
