RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 06-05-2018

I noticed a couple of new Quixote release dates:
Greece - August 23
Russia - September

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1318517/releaseinfo

I'm sure more dates will open up after this final ruling over Branco's false claim over the film happens in mid-June.

Yeah, I think a lot are holding back just in case. But, after Branco's last two recent defeats in the French courts, I think we know which way it'll go. Wink

RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 06-05-2018

Please note that the trials and tribulations with Paulo Branco never said anything about his rights over the distribution of the film (and moreover the international distribution). It's just Branco who said that and let that rumor grow to frighten distributors and have some leverage but the rulings were about the repartition of the film's profit, that's all. Even if Branco wins this ruling, it would just mean he'll be given some money from the producers.

In other news, the film has now left my cinema, it really didn't make a splash here in France, sadly. I guess there were several factors at play : bad reviews from jaded critics, a marketing campaign which arrived too late and was hampered by the Branco situation, and cinema screens clogged up with Deadpool and Avengers and Star Wars...

Anyway, the famous french cinema magazine Positif has a glowing review of the film in its new issue (the magazine is published monthly so they just reviewed the film in the june issue)... Allociné has a quote from the article :
http://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm-138557/critiques/presse/#pressreview40059327
"The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" offers a cinematic spectacle totally in line with the idiosyncrasy of Gilliam's imagination. This film is a real claim of his "auteurism" in the most honorable sense of the word."

If it's any consolation, the new Star Wars is set to a big flop. But, at least Quixote's got released, maybe it'll do better in other countries and on DVD. Look at Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, nothing in cinemas, but it was later given it's own Criterion Collection DVD which was a best seller. Wink

Anyways. I've found some more interview clips

It's a cautionary tale for other distributors : don't mistake the professed interest for the troubles and mishaps of the legendary "cursed" film for an interest in the film and its story itself... I saw countless people, spectators, bloggers etc. rejoicing of the Cannes screening and the completion of the film but actually never going to see the film when it came out.

Turns out the film isn't being shown much in the Catalonia region of Spain for some reason, relations between Spain and the Catalonia region are at an all time low, but it's on release in Barcelona. Terry has rectified it by translating the poster into Catalonian. Wink https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1787816737943799&id=256730041052484
