RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-14-2018 By the way, in a new french interview, Gilliam says he has lost a bit of his peripheral vision in his left eye due to a stroke one year ago. In other interviews he spoke about a heart attack in 2016, I don't know if it's a mistranslation somewhere or if Gilliam is piling up health issues for 2 years now. RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 05-14-2018 Hopefully with the stress of Quixote behind him, Gilliam's health problems will recede. He does seem to be in good spirits judging by his recent photos/interviews. RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-15-2018 The judges will examine tomorrow Paulo Branco's request to block the french release of the film until september : http://www.lepoint.fr/culture/demande-de-suspension-de-la-sortie-de-don-quichotte-examinee-mercredi-15-05-2018-2218537_3.php The legal decision should be known thursday or friday. I really doubt that the release would be cancelled but, as always, you never know. RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 05-15-2018 (05-15-2018, 01:38 PM)bruttenholm Wrote: The judges will examine tomorrow Paulo Branco's request to block the french release of the film until september : http://www.lepoint.fr/culture/demande-de-suspension-de-la-sortie-de-don-quichotte-examinee-mercredi-15-05-2018-2218537_3.php Branco is still playing the bad loser card, obviously bitter about the decision that it'll play in Cannes. Plus, why September? If they delay the release, it'll cost the distributors dearly. Plus, I don't see Branco trying to stop the release in other European countries. All these legal injunctions he's bringing won't be cheap, he'll ruin himself at this rate, we can only hope! ![]() RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-15-2018 September because summer is a dead season for author films so he'd prefer to release it then. He acts like he was the distributor dictating the release plan, that's ridiculous ! Anyway here is the first official french review for the film : http://www.telerama.fr/cinema/films/lhomme-qui-tua-don-quichotte,n5613915.php (not too enthusiastic but quite good though -the critic talks about an uneven film, with bits that sound rehashed from previous Gilliam films, and other bits of astounding poetry) (note that this magazine slayed Gilliam's 3 previous films) RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 05-15-2018 My point is Branco knew perfectly well for ages when the French release was. Instead of dawdling around with legal injunctions trying to stop Cannes from showing the film, you'd have thought he'd have tried to stop the film being released. Plus, he hasn't tried to halt the release elsewhere, I think he's losing money from these court cases and he can only spread himself so far. RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-15-2018 Yeah there's something strange with the releases in other countries... For example he's not tempting anything with the Spanish release, I don't know if he's just not trying or if he knows he has no basis to sue elsewhere... Anyway great interview of Tony Grisoni by Phil on the main site : https://www.dreamsfanzine.com/donqtgri.htm I didn't read everything to not delve too much into spoilers, though. RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 05-15-2018 Plus, it has a Portuguese distributor, and he hasn't tried stopping it in his native Portugal... yet. Branco's priorities are eccentric to say the least, but I think he's left this new court injunction way too late, it's out on Saturday, and it's already being reviewed across France, I wouldn't be surprised if there's already been preview screenings to the public already. Oh, and the Tony Grisoni interview was good. ![]() RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 05-16-2018 Another review: https://www.nouvelobs.com/cinema/20180514.OBS6599/en-guerre-l-homme-qui-tua-don-quichotte-notre-selection-cinema-de-la-semaine.html Translation by Google: Quote:♥♥♥ "The man who killed Don Quixote", by Terry Gilliam. Spanish drama with Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce and Olga Kurylenko (2:12). Released in cinemas on May 19th. RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-16-2018 Here is a beautiful featurette about the natural sets of the movie, with gorgeous vistas and never before seen clips (and nice interviews due partly to Phil Stubbs) : https://www.lci.fr/cinema/terry-gilliam-adam-driver-l-homme-qui-tua-don-quichotte-des-decors-naturels-epoustouflants-2087504.html One can wonder why such beautiful shots weren't included in any of the trailers... |
