RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 04-20-2018 The producers of the current version say he can't, repeating what the French distributor said. From what I've gathered from various news articles and court documents, the current producers had been attached to help fund it in 2016, until Branco sacked them believing he could do it better himself. So the production team on the current version was formed out of the ashes of the 2016 attempt. RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 04-20-2018 From what I gathered, paulo Branco alienated and scared a lot of people... He rejected Kinology and Amazon didn't want to finance the film as long as he was producing... After he was gone, this 2 partners came back and helped fully finance the film. RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 04-20-2018 Amazon knew he was bad news, but it seems Gilliam knew what he'd got himself into early on, and had been planning his Plan B production while all the trouble with Branco was going on. There's a whole bit on Quixote's Wikipedia page about Branco's involvement. It has to be read to be believed! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Killed_Don_Quixote#With_Paulo_Branco_as_producer_(2016) RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 04-20-2018 (04-19-2018, 11:36 AM)bruttenholm Wrote: Sorry for you guys, not everybody can be french I guess Congratulations, Bruttenholm. I hope we get get a spoiler-free review. ![]() RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 04-20-2018 The Wiki article mentions that Branco's actions after all the salary cuts he tried to enforce gave Gilliam a heart attack. Unbelievable! RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 04-20-2018 Yes that's what Gilliam said to journalists in Paris. The poor guy suffered a heart attack before the shoot and a prostate operation after... Talk about a taxing film ! RE: The Making of Quixote - MercuryZap - 04-22-2018 I hope it gets sorted out. Both for TG's sake and ours: I'm, naturally, looking forward to this film more than any another this year or decade or so for that matter! M RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 04-24-2018 Paulo Branco is still menacing to stop the Cannes screening : http://www.lepoint.fr/culture/don-quichotte-de-terry-gilliam-a-cannes-un-passage-en-force-pour-le-producteur-paulo-branco-24-04-2018-2213032_3.php I think it's more desperate than anything (by the way, he's openly accusing Thierry Frémaux of forcing through to show the film, not sure it's the good thing to do when you work in french cinema ![]() If you speak french, there has been a pretty long report about the case on french tv yesterday : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsNLFGZgqTc Nothing really new... You can glimpse some new images from the film on a monitor or 2 during Gilliam's interviews. RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 04-25-2018 In doing that, Branco is effectively biting the hand that feeds him, all the way up to the armpit. He's thrashing about like a jilted lover who can't accept the truth.
