In this article, Gilliam still hopes to be selected in Cannes.
On one side, I think that it would be complicated for Thierry Frémaux to take sides in this lawsuit by selecting the film, on the other side, if i was the selection committee, I couldn't even dream of such a formidable event (imagine : a film nobody could see outside of the festival !). We'll wait and see, I guess.

It's a bit of a coincidence that the trailer and poster dropped the day after the hearing. Hopefully it'll help with the Cannes premier and keep Branco from further delaying the film.

Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’ Might Get That Cannes Premiere After All: https://theplaylist.net/don-quixote-cannes-20180405/

Quote:News & distributors news release The man who killed Don Quixote, from Terry Gilliam: Press Release of the french producers and distributor of film, ocean films Contrary to Mr.'s allegations. Paulo Branco, the film of "the man who killed Don Quixote" is not blocked in any way. No court decision was made in this case, Mr Branco, who had attempted to ban film filming, was rejected by the court of grand instance in Paris on 19 May 2017. Film has therefore been made in compliance with this court decision. And before the Paris Court of appeal, on 4 April 2018, Mr. Branco has officially waived a forgery. As a result, the dispute between the court of appeal and the court of appeal on 15 June relates exclusively to messrs branco and Gilliam. In this context, the press campaign orchestrated by Paulo Branco, which coincides with the imminent presentation of the film in prestigious festivals, is a way to try to get under pressure the 3,5 m€ astronomical sum claimed to the producers of the film. The producers and distributors of the film will not be intimidated by this intimidation and vigorously defend the work of Terry Gilliam for 25 years.

RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 04-05-2018

Yeah let's hope ! The press release makes it really sound like the film's been selected for Cannes...

P.S. : Have you seen Nicola Pecorini's credit on the poster and the trailer ? It's "Nicola Sancho Pecorini"... A nice touch for Gilliam's most devoted collaborator (and also a big hint as to who is Gilliam alter ego in this story Smile )

RE: The Making of Quixote - cclark - 04-05-2018

Nice! I didn't see that. Thanks for pointing it out.

RE: The Making of Quixote - Donald McKinney - 04-05-2018

I noticed the Sancho touch to Nicola Pecorini, seeing as they've been through thick and thin over the past 20 years, it's quite a touching tribute from Terry to Nicola.
