Legalese translation please. This sounds potentially disastrous for Gilliam and Quixote. Where do things go from here and what are the chances that the film could be held in limbo while the two sides fight in court? Terry must have had good counsel advising him that he could find another producer.

As stated early, Gilliam has Amazon on his side and other producers, and apparently they've had to sue Branco in 4 different countries. Oh, and it turns out Branco isn't very reliable as a producer. Gilliam posted this last autumn when it collapsed. Read some of the comments regarding Branco, and you'll see why Gilliam chose to part company with him: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1176787395713406&substory_index=0&id=256730041052484

RE: The Making of Quixote - bruttenholm - 05-31-2017

In France, Paulo Branco has this aura of half pirate, half crook Smile During Cannes, I read an interview with him where he talked about the time he convinced the jury to give an award to a Manoel de Oliveira film that he produced but that wasn't in competition...
Yet even with these skills I don't see how he could claim rights on the man who killed don quixote... Notoriously, Jeremy Thomas bought back the rights of the screenplay in 2008 so he must be calling the shots on this, not Branco. Worst case scenario would be Branco getting a bit of money to go away, I'm not worried about seeing the film released in the near future.

But, the producers seem confident that it'll be sorted and Branco will be sent packing. It seems like he's throwing a temper tantrum because he's been forced out of the film.

Sounds like Branco took a few courses at Trump University.

Apparently there have been a few days of pick-ups/reshoots. Anyway I thought filming was finished last week but it lasted until yesterday : https://www.instagram.com/p/BUyeB6-AIrT/?taken-by=rodripoison
(now it seems to be officially over)

So glad to hear that prospects are good and that Branco won't derail Quixote. Your optimism shames me. What is there ever to worry about concerning a Terry Gilliam film?  Big Grin  If things went along smoothly then we should be worried, and Terry wouldn't have any fun!
