Enjoy this 6-1/2 minute preview of Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass, the third feature film directed by the Quay Brothers.

Also, I recently created a new subreddit celebrating the work of the Quays in anticipation of the upcoming film: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheBrothersQuay/

It looks like the film has been in production for a long time. This article is from 2010: https://www.slashfilm.com/celebrated-ani...ew-feature

Very interesting. I’ve seen the original, labyrinthine 70’s version on dvd from mr bongo films (I think)

That version is definitely worth checking out for fans of surrealistic, stream of consciousness cinema.

Very excited to see this new version, though.

It has a possible release date of Dec. 31, 2021, according to this site: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/423881-...-hourglass

Update: I would take that date with a grain of salt. The film doesn't have a listing on the IMDb (yet), and I'm not sure how accurate themoviedb.org is. Also, by seeing the changes history, I could see that the year of the release date had been changed several times, but the month and day remained the same. I'd wait for a more official announcement. The video preview I posted above was released last summer, so who knows? There's a good chance we could see a release of the film before the end of the year. They may be waiting for things to open up more before they announce anything.

Also of interest is the news that the Quay Brothers are still actively working on Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass according to this recent interview:

Quote:C: Last question: if you had an unlimited budget and resources to make a film based on or connected with the work of one Polish author, what would that be?

QB: We’re actually attempting at this very moment an adaptation of Bruno Schulz’s Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass as a feature film with puppets and live-action.
