Here is a review : https://www.filmbuffonline.com/FBOLNewsr...andits-ii/

From what I can gather, it looks like Charles McKeown went solo on the script, it was written in Summer 1997, Gilliam at the time was in America filming Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Quote:Word on the street is Wellywood will have an injection of stars this August with Taika Waititi's Time Bandits ready to start filming in the capital.

Paramount TV Studios confirmed to Spy, the Kiwi star is co-writing and directing the pilot of the Apple television series adaptation of the 1981 Terry Gilliam-directed movie, but could not comment further at this time.

Quote: Clement's current focus is co-writing a TV series adaptation with Waititi and Iain Morris based on the 1981 Terry Gilliam-directed film Time Bandits, which is in development with Apple and likely to begin filming in August.

In April, Waititi visited Larnach Castle, Wedderburn and Glenorchy, and was also pictured in Dunedin with Clement, prompting speculation it would be shot in Dunedin.

''We start filming in a couple of months,'' says Clement. ''I'm writing a couple of other projects, but Time Bandits is taking up all the energy at the moment.''
Seems like Jemaine Clement has a more prominent role in this than Waititi.

New small update, and confirmation, by Taika Waititi :

Quote:“I’m going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with ‘Our Flag Means Death’ and ‘Time Bandits’ and during that time I will still be writing. I’m still trying to figure out what the story is.”

The cast has been unveiled : https://deadline.com/2022/09/time-bandit...235129518/
I guess Lisa Kudrow seems to be playing some equivalent of David Rappaport's character ? Hiring short actors to play the bandits would be deem insensitive in some way now, but having tall bandits interacting with a small child poses basic framing and staging problems (that's why Gilliam cast short people in the first place, to have all the band on the same level with the kid), I wonder how they'll solve them.

Time Bandits is such a brilliant, magical and unique film. Like so much of the corporate  I.P. mining fighting it out for our money & time this whole thing leaves me completely cold. I really, really liked JoJo Rabbit.

Not everyone is happy with casting choices and consider them a form of disablism and ableism: https://twitter.com/shannondevido/status...0381911040

Funny how when the cast was announced some websites wrote that this was an improvement on the original...
Quote: If today's casting announcement is any indication, then this plot detail will likely be scrapped from the series altogether. Besides, it's not like the stature of the thieves was used in the original film for anything other than tacky joke fodder.

I wonder if those types of journalists will now change sides and deem the casting of the seriesrevolting Big Grin
