Cool. Thanks. By coincidence I watched the Criterion dvd of this unique film yesterday afternoon after a long time.

It’s a savage but strangely beautiful piece. Gilliam’s later works are really suffused with a density (beyond the purely visual) and a continuity of very real, difficult sadness that sets them apart and maybe alienates the casual viewer.

That sense that the film is making itself thus disrupting traditional narrative structure is very apparent here (gonzo). This artistic process in action might also have been a little awkward for our spooned culture.

I feel the artistic gambles reap greater more satisfying results in Fear & Loathing than in say Zero Theorem which seems to me now to have become conflicted and truncated by the process.
