(Warning: Picture flood! Images too large to be shown here or that were barred from getting hotlinked have been put as simple links.)
(Packer's thread he started about the VHS copy for Jabberwocky sent me on a bit of a googling frenzy. When I saw in the editing tab what abomination of a post I'd created, I decided to make it its own thread in order not to risk getting banned for one of my very first posts on the new forum over the issue of SPAM SPAM LOVELY SPAM!)
While we're at the topic of covers/posters, by far my favorite poster for Munchausen is still the original German one which is the one I have on the wall in my office (copy shown here could use a little brightening up of either the blacks or the mids, and some saturation added overall):
Just look how blandly the English/American poster pales in comparison, making the Baron to be all about hot air in his head as Horatio Jackson thought:
And I know that even way more asinine covers have been used for English-language VHS and DVD releases. It's no surprise then that with the anniversary edition, they went with a bit more Baroque version then:
My only regret is I still favor the original German release poster that was replaced with the Blue Baroque version even for the German anniversary edition. I wonder if the people choosing the Blue Baroque version even knew about the German version.
My second-favorite poster for Munchausen is still the Italian one:
Smaller English version (but lighter and with better saturation):
Larger English version, closer to the Italian original (notice head of King of the Moon at the top):

And while I was googling for the above, once again it's been proven fact that, as I've been saying over on Theresa's place one time, Italians obviously know beauty when they see it. Have you guys ever seen this awesome cover/poster for Time Bandits?

The above has a bit of a greenish cast, so here's a smaller version with better colors:

Speaking of what I also found via googling for the above, here's some more bits of delightful weirdness I've come across (gee, I wish some of these woulda been around, especially at this resolution, a few years ago when I designed my own collage of favorite Brazil posters!):

Gee, I'm sorry about the last bit (one poster and one URL) repeating several times! Musta been some browser hiccup on my end. Would be great if you could fix it, Phil.
