Here allociné (the most important french film website) is betting on Asghar Farhadi's or Gilliam's next to be selected : http://www.allocine.fr/article/fichearti...71922.html (both are scheduled -for now- to open in May in France)
The article finishes by stating that Woody Allen is off the running because of the atmosphere and the fact that Cate Blanchette is very supportive of the Metoo movement... Though we can aslo wonder if this situation is not harming Gilliam's chances after his comments from last week.
Yeah, I can still see The Man Who Killed Don Quixote getting it's Cannes premiere, despite Gilliam's comments and the legal troubles with Paulo Branco. As for Woody Allen, he has premiered some of his films at Cannes, but with his new one, A Rainy Day In New York, it's uncertain if it will get a release, let alone a festival premiere. Woody's deal with an increasingly bewildered Amazon still stands, but they've put money into into the film, they'll want to see a return. Besides, what if it's actually good? What if it's up there with Blue Jasmine or Midnight in Paris? Do Amazon still dump it or give it a chance?
