In France, Paulo Branco has this aura of half pirate, half crook
During Cannes, I read an interview with him where he talked about the time he convinced the jury to give an award to a Manoel de Oliveira film that he produced but that wasn't in competition...
Yet even with these skills I don't see how he could claim rights on the man who killed don quixote... Notoriously, Jeremy Thomas bought back the rights of the screenplay in 2008 so he must be calling the shots on this, not Branco. Worst case scenario would be Branco getting a bit of money to go away, I'm not worried about seeing the film released in the near future.
