If the filming really begins in september, John Hurt won't be part of it, as he now has a part in a play scheduled from august to november.

It should be noted that Adrian Guerra and Nostromo Pictures seem to be out of the picture now.
In an italian interview, Gilliam said that the producer couldn't provide the budget he said he could : http://www.repubblica.it/spettacoli/teat...136065132/
Also Guerra and Nostromo are not listed on imdb for The man who killed don quixote.

So it's now back on track with wild french-portuguese producer Paulo Branco : http://www.screendaily.com/news/terry-gi...44.article
Filming is expected to start next september, with a budget around 18,2 million dollars, a bit less than the 21 million promised by Adrian Guerra a few years ago.
As explained before, it's supposed that John Hurt is out...

The Hollywood Reporter says that the film will star both John Hurt and Jack O'Connell. Unless this was early enough that Hurt was able to back out of that play, I have a feeling they're wrong (though I believe Hurt would've made the best Quixote).

UPDATE: Meanwhile Variety has this to say:
Quote:Jack O’Connell and John Hurt are no longer attached to the project. Casting is under way.

At least the door seems to be still open to Amazon.

He also says that he doesn't announce a film if he does'nt have the funds secured or in the process of being secured, which is quite comforting...
I don't know, in France, Branco as a reputation of being kind of the last true maverick producer... Closing a budget by earning some money at poker etc. He's really quixotic in that way but he has mostly made small or very small budget films (I think his biggest film is still Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, with a budget along the lines of what is announced for Quixote).

Since John Hurt seems to be definitely out of the film's September incarnation, we're now free to speculate who Terry's next gonna cast as the legendary man of La Mancha. On an entirely random note probably of little value to anybody without the slightest interest in the German dubbing industry, I've just now found out that both John Hurt and Jean Rochefort happen to have the same standard German dubbing talent, Jürgen Thormann, which may or may not say anything about what type of actor Terry's gonna cast next in the role (as German dubbing casts are usually made by type, i. e. similar actors or actors with similar voices get the same dubbing actor).

With that entirely random observation that with Rochefort and Hurt, Terry cast actors that in German are type-dubbed by Thormann, we can now speculate along the line of other famous actors usually voiced by Thormann as for Terry's next choice for the role: Sir Michael Caine, Sir Ian McKellen, Max von Sydow, Gene Wilder, Edward Fox, Scott Glenn, Michael Cochrane, Simon Callow, James Fox. Any thoughts on any of those names? Wink

I like Simon Callow, if only for the Orson Welles connection. Of course, either Sir Ian McKellen or Max von Sydow would be great too.
