So now would probably be a good time to start a thread for the next film. Any word on how production is coming along?

We don't know much... We don't even know if it's really stalling or not

Gilliam gives some news... not necessarily encouraging:
https://deadline.com/2025/07/terry-gilli...236450896/ Basically, what emerges from this interview is: -Gilliam's master plan was to build a solid cast to attract financiers. In fact, he validates all the names already published in the press, and he adds Tom Waits to the list. Sounds like the big meeting of all the old friends. -The master plan didn't work out very well since not many people took the bait : he doesn't have the money to make the film (I think we heard it before). -Reading the interview, one gets the impression that Gilliam is starting to get used to the idea that he has to give up on the project altogether (he says he's ready to make another studio film). -More intriguingly, he says that in any case, the script would have to be rewritten, as it was a satire of the "world of woke" and has become out of date in some ways since Trump's election. In short, we won't be seeing the film any time soon, if you ask me. At this point, I think we should mainly hope for studios to send him good scripts for small, ready-to-go films.

Has the return of Donald Trump also affected your work?
Well, he’s fucked up the latest film I was working on. Because it was a satire about the last several years when things were going as they were. He’s turned it upside down. So he’s killed my movie. That’s The Carnival at the End of Days, right? Yes. I had a sub-title that said: “Great fun for all of those who enjoy taking offense.” That was how I approached it. I think Trump has destroyed satire. I mean, how can you be satirical about what’s going on in the way he’s doing the world? With Carnival, the other day I was thinking I was going to put a little preamble on it saying that what you’re about to see takes place during the period historians refer to as the Trump lost years from 2020 to 2024. Do you think that there might still be a way to do the movie, maybe in a few years? I think I’ve got to rewrite a lot of it. I’m still trying to decide how to approach that. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies...236307758/

"I think that one [Carnival] is not gonna happen. This is probably the first time I publicly said that. So I'm a little worried about saying it -it probably will kill it."
At the 31th minute here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frzEaErIpVI Apparently he has broken up with his italian financier who didn't manage to provide the budget he was expecting. |
