An interesting article about the influence of Gilliam's film on Final Fantasy IV.
I wonder what was the box-office for the film in Japan at the time, it seems to have been quite seminal for the japanese pop culture.
At the end of the article, you can seen a character from the manga One Piece clearly inspired by the character of Adolphus.

Interesting. I also found the giant eel scene in, ahem, Super Mario Brothers Movie had strong reverberations of the giant fish sequence in Munchausen.

I haven't seen the Supermario film... Maybe it's a reference to something in the game(s) which already referenced Gilliam film ? Seems unlikely though
