If it's shooting in may 2016, I suppose it won't be ready for the autumn festival circuit so maybe they will wait until Cannes 2017 to show it...

I suppose the current real-world, present-day script will hold much lesser SFX than did the original time-travel script, so the post-production will most likely be significantly shorter.

I guess so but even with that you have a little more than 2 months of filming + let's say at least 1 month of editing... You're already in late august-early september and you still haven't done sound design, music, the visual effects are probably not done... So I guess the film can't be ready before october or november, already too late for the festivals like Venice or Toronto. So they'll have to wait for Cannes or Berlin festivals in 2017.

I think Cannes sounds like a best bet. Amazon will want to make a big splash with their new films anyway. They didn't make deals with the likes of Terry Gilliam and Spike Lee so they could go the typical indie movie route.

Very excited to hear that The Man Who Killed Don Quixote may be filming in May 2016, but I am concerned about John Hurt's medical issues. If John's illness forces him to withdraw from the project would that mean the project could collapse again? Perhaps another actor could be pulled in (similar to what happened with Parnassus).

Keeping my fingers crossed that Amazon will also back Terry's long-delayed The Defective Detective project. This one is close to my heart. Although a movie would be ideal, anything that gets Terry's projects and vision out there at this stage of his career would be deeply appreciated.

John Hurt gave updates on his health on the occasion of him being knighted by the queen and apparently he's feeling pretty good :
Quote:'I'm not feeling any of the side effects you're suppose to feel, or at least you can feel, as everybody's different I'm told.

'It's extraordinary, I haven't lost weight or anything and I'm feeling good - it's crazy.

'My oncologist is extremely optimistic, as indeed I am, so everything is going really well.'

Don't think it's saying anything new - just that funding has now been confirmed, and it's "slated to debut in May 2016".
Actually the film is slated to debut in January 2016, not May, as Gilliam reveals it in a new italian interview.

January 2016? Sounds like Terry has found a Film-to-go outlet.

On second thought, it sounds like the collab is not with Amazon, but rather with Polaroid: It's gonna be an instant film.

If someone is a Times suscriber, I'd be interested to know what's this article about as apparently the journalist talked to John Hurt and has deduced that "Don Quixote curse strikes again"....

EDIT : Nothing really new actually :
Quote: The film looked set to finally be made after Hurt signed up to lead the cast last year (14), but the British actor announced in June (15) that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the movie's insurers have now ordered the shoot to be postponed until the outcome of his treatment is known.

Hurt confirmed the news to Britain's The Times newspaper, adding, "Terry seems very optimistic that we will start filming soon. Optimism is a good thing."
